Community Commons

We seek to be climate action Velcro. We stick together to learn, collaborate and act, and then break apart to form additional connections that are accretive to the work at hand.

Community Commons sessions are laboratories to share, learn, question, connect and find new pathways that we might have not considered. Power Hours are more broad, actionable and for everyday people considering and adding to their climate action.

From a relationship perspective, givers build deeper and broader connections.

Community Commons: Impact Makers

For environmental, climate justice and climate nonprofits based in the US, doing work locally or globally. These monthly gatherings (with the months of August, September and October off) are often led by nonprofit leadership or those that work with and serve the 501c3 community in some way. Topics have included using art and graphics to explain complicated climate issues, fund raising and relationship development, the state of climate media coverage, building trust with the communities you serve, messaging and framing issues, advocacy as a key tool in the nonprofit arena that is typically overlooked, among others.

Community Commons: Change-making Women

For women in the sustainability field or not – simply seeking to be courageous, connect with others, and get insights on how to drive change in your own life. These monthly gatherings (with the months of August, September and October off) are led by women who have compelling stories or skills that might help in our own journeys. We have learned from Olympians consulting in sustainability with major companies, how to tune in to self, a journey of connection and collaboration, insights from a young AAPI co-ed and how we can better connect with young climate leaders, and the journey of someone seeking to drive change from a number of positions, including a presidential policy advisor.

Power Hours

Leading up to Earth Gives Day 2023, sessions were presented by leading nonprofit authorities on the topics of policy/advocacy, regenerative agriculture, climate justice, and circularity/zero waste. These presentations were filled with actionable ideas that are “evergreen” for your viewing.

For 2024, we will be planning and hosting additional Power Hours to help inspire more action, connection to nonprofits that are driving change with people like you, and deepening knowledge to embrace the learnings in our own lives, at work, with families and beyond.

We believe that philanthropy is looking at the full expansiveness of giving – from where you make your nonprofit investments to where you give your time, talent, where you spend your money
as a consumer, the products you use, and where you offer your voice and your vote.
